The glue must be well worked up with should not be allowed to become too thick in the glue pot.

The parchment must be first prepared by placing under it the wooden block and rubbing the surface, where

stamp will fall, with pumice stone.

A tin stencil plate of the proper size must then be placed on the parchment, and the glue applied by a stiff brush, taking care to thoroughly work it into the surface

of the parchment.

The escutcheon must then be firmly afrixed, and all superfluous glue carefully cleaned from the perchment and stencil plate by a damp cloth. The parchment and escutch eon so affixed must then be placed over a soft wooden block pierced through with the piercers, and a small piece of

foil inserted and neatly folded over at the back.

The glue must then be applied through the small stencil plate to the back of the parchment and the "cypher

firmly secured.
